Providing Teeth Whitening in Renton, WA

Everybody loves a bright white smile, and there are a variety of products and procedures available to help you improve the look of yours.

Finding the Best Treatment for You

Schedule a visit with our office to learn whether whitening procedures would be effective for you. Whiteners do not correct all types of discoloration. For example, yellowish teeth will probably bleach well, brownish teeth may bleach less well, and grayish teeth may not bleach well at all. We have researched the best bleaching methods that give you the best value. Come in to our office to have a consultation about your teeth and what would be best for your before you try other bleaching methods on your own.

Tooth Whitening Treatments

  • Professional teeth whitening with your doctor
  • At-home whitening system
  • Whitening toothpaste

One Visit Professional Teeth Whitening with a Light (Zoom)

We want our patients to receive the best value for their investment. We have tried the Zoom one visit whitening with the Zoom light and have found that the results are not good. Over 50% of the people who we performed the Zoom whitening process on were unsatisfied with the results. Dr. Odegard feels that one visit, one hour whitening processes do not work effectively because the bleach is not in contact with the teeth for a long enough time. It takes time for the bleach to remove intrinsic stains and colors from the teeth. Although we still have the Zoom whitening process in our office, we have discontinued recommending it.

At-Home Whitening System

There are several types of products available for use at home which can either be dispensed by your doctor or purchased over the counter.

Teeth Whitening Trays

These products contain peroxide(s) which actually bleach the tooth enamel. Carbamide peroxide is the bleaching agent and comes in several different concentrations (10%, 16%, and 22%).  Custom made mouth trays keep the bleaching gel on your teeth for better and longer action. Dr. Odegard feels that whitening with custom bleach trays and professional bleach kits provide the best results of any bleaching method. Currently, only dentist-dispensed, home-use, 10% carbamide peroxide tray-applied gels carry the ADA Seal.

Teeth Whitening Strips

Teeth whitening strips are thin, flexible plastic (polyethylene) strips with a thin film of hydrogen peroxide bleaching on one side. They are purchased over the counter at the drug store. They are very uncomfortable to use and the bleach does not stay just on the teeth. They can be harmful to your gums and the results are not very good. You are better off purchasing a professional bleaching system from our office.

Whitening Toothpaste

All toothpastes help remove surface stain from your teeth through the action of mild abrasives. "Whitening" toothpastes in the ADA Seal of Acceptance program have special chemical or polishing agents that provide additional stain removal effectiveness. Unlike bleaches, these ADA Accepted products do not alter the intrinsic color of teeth.
